Hey,
Let me tell you something I learned after running ads for 10 years and burning more money than I’d like to admit:
You can have the best hook, the sharpest edit, the cleanest landing page – but if your Call To Action (CTA) sucks, your conversions will too.
I used to overlook CTAs all the time. I’d slap on “Learn More” or “Buy Now” and move on. Because let’s be honest – it’s just a button, right?
Wrong.
Your CTA isn’t just a button – it’s the moment someone decides to take action… or scroll past.
It’s the handshake, the final push, the closing line of your best salesperson.
And over time, I’ve found that testing the right kind of CTA – not just its color or placement – can lift conversions by 30–40% without changing anything else in the ad.
So today, I want to give you a cheat sheet I personally use when testing CTAs.
Each one has a different psychological angle – and when matched to the right offer, they convert like crazy.
Let’s break it down:
Goal-Driven CTAs
These work best when you want to guide people toward a clear next step – especially for product trials, demos, or consultations.
- Get Your Free Trial
- Book Your Spot
- Try It Risk-Free
Use these when you’re giving something upfront or want to reduce friction.
The word “your” personalises it, and “risk-free” removes hesitation.
Urgency-Driven CTAs
Perfect for limited-time offers or launches where you want people to act now, not later.
- Claim Before Midnight
- Limited Spots Left
- Only 24 Hours Remaining
This taps into FOMO. It works incredibly well with countdown timers or flash sale creatives.
Value-Focused CTAs
When your audience needs more incentive, these CTAs emphasize what they’ll get out of the click.
- Unlock the Blueprint
- See How It Works
- Get Instant Access
Use this when your lead magnet, webinar, or demo truly delivers something valuable. It frames the CTA around gain, not just action.
Curiosity-Based CTAs
Want people to click just because they have to know what’s behind the curtain? This one’s for you.
- Discover the Secret
- What Happens Next?
- Reveal the Strategy
These are especially effective for top-of-funnel or UGC-style ads. Combine them with mystery-style visuals or open loops.
Tone-Based CTAs
These aren’t just functional – they carry your brand personality. They’re softer, more conversational, and lower resistance.
- Let’s Go → Friendly, upbeat
- Yes, I’m In → Affirmative, confident
- Show Me How → Helpful, coaching tone
These work beautifully when your brand voice is casual, and your audience prefers warm over formal.
Here’s what I suggest:Don’t change your whole ad when conversions dip.
Start by testing 2–3 CTAs across different tones and triggers.
Sometimes, the only thing standing between 2x ROAS and a flop… is a better “next step.”
Let the creative do the heavy lifting—but let the CTA close the deal.
Till next time,
Happy advertising.
