I’m giving this a solid 4.5 out of 5.
User-generated content (UGC) is a winner across every industry because people trust content from real people way more than traditional ads.
Ads that mimic UGC are dominating across advertising platforms, and Meta is no exception. What makes this ad stand out is its use of native Meta features—the overlay headline grabs attention immediately.
More importantly, instead of selling something upfront, the ad pulls you in with raw, real visuals of people with cystic acne. It educates first, sells later, which is an excellent strategy.
By the time you realize it’s an ad, you’re already invested in the story, and the product becomes a natural next step.
2. Hook Score:
This gets a 5 out of 5 from me.
The first three seconds are gold—the visuals and overlay headline pull you in instantly. It sets up a powerful narrative, which keeps people engaged.
Ads that educate and provide value always get higher attention in feeds because people actually want to watch and learn. This one nails it.
3. Retention Score:
A solid 4.5 out of 5.
In just 20 seconds, so much is happening that people are bound to rewatch it multiple times just to process everything. The fast jump cuts, changing visuals, and clear transformation keep viewers locked in from start to finish.
This is textbook ad storytelling done right.
4. Click Score:
This gets a 4 out of 5 from me.
The educational approach works beautifully to keep people watching, and once the offer is revealed, clicks naturally follow. The headline reinforces the offer, making it even more enticing.
However, they could have optimized the space better by highlighting the key offer more clearly. Small tweaks could have pushed this into 4.5 or even 5 territory.
5. Ugly Score:
This is a 5 out of 5.
The UGC format lends a lot of authenticity, making it relatable and engaging. At the same time, using native platform features, jump cuts, and unpolished shots make it even better.
6. Congruency Score:
I’m giving this a 3 out of 5.
The landing page takes you to a customized product quiz, which is a smart move in today’s world of personalization. However, this should have been mentioned in the ad itself to set the right expectations.
If users knew upfront that they were clicking for a personalized skincare recommendation, they’d be even more motivated. That said, the value proposition remains strong, so it’s still a solid, well-aligned experience.
Caption:
The caption is well-written but lacks effective formatting, such as adequate line breaks and emojis, which would improve the click-through rate.
Currently, benefits are lumped together in a paragraph which decrease the overall readability. Using bullet points here would make more sense. Additionally, a more compelling call-to-action is needed to maximize response.
How can you use this for your business?
1. Educate First, Sell Later – Instead of jumping straight to the offer, start by addressing a problem and then position your product as the solution.
2. Leverage UGC – Raw, real content feels more trustworthy than polished ads. Even if you’re making a structured ad, mimic a UGC feel for better engagement.
3. Optimize Your Landing Page Expectations – If your ad leads to a quiz, trial, or special offer, mention that in the creative so users know what to expect before they click.
